Every campaign email ends with a footer you can’t remove: your mailing address and an Unsubscribe link. That’s what the law asks of commercial email (CAN-SPAM in the US), so Zeno builds it into every email rather than leaving it to each issue’s design.
  • Mailing address — set on Style guide → Look & feel. No campaign sends until it’s filled in. See Style guide.
  • Unsubscribe link — on every email, always. Hiding the Read this issue on our website link doesn’t affect it.
  • Footer text — optional wording of your own, also from Look & feel.
Your AI can restyle the footer, but the address and the unsubscribe link stay in.

What a recipient sees

Clicking Unsubscribe opens a page that asks first: “Are you sure you wish to unsubscribe j***@example.com from emails from Your Organization?” The address is partly hidden. Nothing changes until the recipient clicks Yes, unsubscribe me. Closing the page leaves them subscribed. Asking first means a link scanner, a forwarded email, or a stray click can’t unsubscribe anyone by opening the link. Someone who has already unsubscribed sees You’re unsubscribed instead of the question.

One-click unsubscribe in Gmail and Apple Mail

Gmail, Apple Mail, and other clients that support one-click unsubscribe (RFC 8058) show their own Unsubscribe button next to the sender. That button unsubscribes the recipient straight away, without the confirmation page. Some mail apps unsubscribe by sending an email for the recipient instead. That works too, also without the confirmation page.

What unsubscribing does

An unsubscribe applies to your whole organization’s campaign mail, not just one list. The address goes on Audience → Do not email, its contact shows as unsubscribed, and no later campaign or welcome email goes to it. Bounces that mean the address is dead and spam complaints add the address to Do not email the same way.

Test emails

A test email has an Unsubscribe link like any other, but it does nothing. Clicking it opens a page that says it’s a test email, and that in the real send each recipient’s link asks them to confirm. Only real sends carry working unsubscribe links, so testing never takes you or a colleague off your own list.

Reporting

Each sent campaign’s report counts Unsubscribed and Spam complaints. See Reports.
