Cash or accrual, and the shelf of reports behind it
A basis toggle across the P&L, Balance Sheet, Trial Balance and party roll-ups, comparison columns on every statement, and nine new reports including General Ledger, Closing-Date Exceptions, and 1099.
Two weeks of report work in one post, because it’s all the same project: everything a bookkeeper gets asked for by an accountant, a lender, or the IRS should already be in the reports menu.
The basis toggle
Zeno’s ledger is accrual. Most small businesses file cash. Until now that meant a year-end conversion someone did by hand in a spreadsheet.
There’s an Accrual / Cash toggle on the P&L, P&L Detail, Balance Sheet, and Trial Balance, plus the vendor, customer, and property roll-ups. On cash basis, revenue and expense follow the payment rather than the invoice, and the balance sheet drops the receivables and payables that only exist on accrual. It’s computed from the same entries, so there’s no second set of books and no export step.
Comparison columns
Statements take period columns now: this month versus last, this year versus prior year, or month-by-month across a quarter, with variance. The column engine is shared, so a report that gains comparison columns gains them in CSV, XLSX, and PDF at the same time.
New reports
- General Ledger: the full account-by-account listing, with a grouped reports page so the menu is navigable.
- Journal and Transaction List by Date: the two chronological views every accountant asks for at the start of a review.
- Party statements and open-item lists: what a vendor or customer owes, and which documents make it up.
- Expenses by Vendor and Sales by Customer summaries.
- Closing-Date Exceptions: anything posted or edited into a closed period, which is the report you want before you trust last year’s numbers.
- 1099 contractor report: totals by contractor for the year, with the payments behind each.
Report timestamps localize to a per-organization timezone, so a report run at 8pm Pacific stops being dated tomorrow.
