Most accounting software is built by engineers who bolt the accounting on after the fact. Most custom-software shops can’t keep a real ledger. Zeno is built by people who do both. The books and the system that produces them are designed together, not glued together later.
It comes from a combination that’s rare in one place: deep accounting expertise and the ability to write the software ourselves. For most of our careers we’ve done one specific thing: take workflows that involve financial data and strict accounting rules, and build systems for them.
For 15 years that meant hand-crafted budgeting and cash-flow systems for multi-million-dollar NYC nonprofits, where the controls were strict, the money was real, and there was no room for error. We’re Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisors (Desktop and Online) with graduate accounting training, so the books are never an afterthought.
That accounting background met software, and it led to ZenoBudget (real-time budgeting for nonprofits) and Hierarchy Budget (personal finance), and then to Zeno itself: a platform that runs an operation’s front office and the books behind it on one real ledger. Zeno is that same muscle pointed at any operation that runs on a real ledger: codifying rigorous financial workflows into software, then using that software to run operations and books at a quality generic tools can’t reach.
